P.R. Miller

“A Bird in the Bug is Better Than 2 in George Bush”

Artist P.R. Miller is the Artist in Residence at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron for the 2007–2008 season. P.R. is a professional environmental artist, using recycled materials to create his masterpiece. The birdhouse is over 5 ft. tall and was inspired by P.R.’s commitment to recycling and ecological responsibility.


Gail Keener

“Noah’s Ark”

Ms. Keener has exhibited and won awards in numerous museum juried shows, and is a member and founding Trustee of the Canton Artists league. Her artwork is often displayed at the Massillon Museum. Ms. Keener told us that when she saw the unfinished birdhouse, she immediately knew it had to be Noah’s Ark. Her attention to detail is clearly evident with each of the animals and birds she depicted.


Alex Nicholis

“Modern Art Takes Flight”

Alexandra Nicholis is an adjunct professor for the Museum Studies program at Walsh University and advises Walsh University’s Art Club. In addition, Ms. Nicholis is the Curator of the Massillon Museum. Her birdhouse was inspired by both Modern and Pop Art which she finds to be provocative and fun. Artists Mondrian, Warhol and Lichtenstein inspired her work of art.


Anne Coneglio

Anne Coneglio is a talented artist recently featured in the Canton Repository newspaper. Ms. Coneglio’s birdhouse artistically features the four seasons beautifully depicted on each side of the birdhouse.


Barb Ludwig and Dan Miller

“Skiers Paradise”

Barb was employed at Walsh University for 12 years, working with in Career Services and with our International student population. Ms. Ludwig is a talented artist, experienced with stained glass and painting. The creation of this artistic pair was inspired by Sugarbush Ski Resort in Vermont. They covered the birdhouse in Cedar and modeled it to look just like their favorite ski chalet.


Susan DelVillan

“Chew Sunflower Seeds”

An employee of Walsh University, Ms. DelVillan has created a popular birdhouse with those that have stopped by to see the submissions. This burgundy birdhouse features sunflowers and was inspired by the old tobacco ads painted on the side of barns.


Shannon Dick

“Pennies for Penguins”

Our youngest artist at 10 years of age has created a winter wonderland, complete with pennies that line the roof, penguins, ice and snow. Shannon is the daughter of Walsh University employee, Brendan Dick.


Carla Rhodes

A favorite aunt of our Habitat organization Alumni Advisor, Ms. Rhodes is a long-time crafter. Her creation includes a small clay worm and frog, a small birdbath and a little bird to attract friends. The structure itself is painted with pictures of birdhouses to complete the theme.


Melody Mercer

A favorite aunt of our Habitat Alumni Advisor, Ms. Mercer is soon to have her creations featured in a craft show in the Parkersburg, WV area. Her patriotic themed birdhouse includes a red and white striped base and a navy roof with stars of varying sizes. The birdhouse also has an antiqued finish to make it perfect for any garden or patio!


Bob Hawks

“Ivy Cottage”

A resident of Canton, Ohio, Mr. Hawks enjoys expressing himself through art. He describes himself as a self-taught artist and one who thinks of art as a hobby. We thank Mr. Hawks for the opportunity to use his talents to support Walsh’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter.


Patricia A. Thomas

“Almost Lunch”

A student at the Canton Art Institute and of professional Marcia Moses, Mrs. Thomas has always admired art as a means of communication. Her artwork often is inspired by poetry or her artwork inspires her to write poetry. This multi-tiered creation includes smaller birdhouse and one hungry little kitty!


Halle Waters

“Thumbprint Birdies”

Ms. Waters is a currently a student at Walsh University. This Pre-dentistry major was inspired by her baby brother’s preschool artwork. Her birdhouse features birds cleverly crafted from Ms. Water’s thumbprints.


Amber Bole

“Welcome to Walsh”

This First Year student was inspired by just joining the Walsh University community. Amber’s artwork proudly features the Walsh University crest and our Cavalier mascot.


Nicole Kurtz

“Family”

Ms. Kurtz is currently a student at the Cleveland Institute of Art, studying for a degree in Medical Illustration and a minor in fiber and material studies. She has even had some of her work displayed in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. After conducting research to learn about which birds were common to this part of Ohio and the colors that attract them, Ms. Kurtz turned to her passion for dinosaurs. She writes, “With increasing evidence linking dinosaurs to birds... I then used a primitive printmaking technique to depict the dinosaurs.”


Debbie Marucci

“Hooters and Tweeters, a gated community”

Mrs. Marucci is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Nursing division at Walsh University. Professor Marucci was inspired by the colorful homes she saw while helping with hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans this past December. This artwork reflects a Habitat community for our fine feathered friends, complete with tiled houses, thatched roofs and provisions for future builds.

“A Love Like Ours”

Ms. Kinnard has created the perfect wedding chapel, complete with the look of stained glass windows, and complete bride and groom apparel. May we suggest this as a delightful shower gift, or the perfect place to hide the engagement ring as you propose to your beloved!


Amy Malaska

“Mother Earth”

Ms. Malaska is one of Walsh’s Habitat Student Organization advisors. In the true spirit of Habitat, Amy pulled out the power tools and carved into the wood creating a reflection of nature itself. Amy was inspired by her memories of the winding vines found throughout the trees during her recent visit to Uganda, Africa.


Diane Belfiglio

“Peacock Penthouse”

As an award winning professional artist and an Adjunct Professor of Art at Walsh University, Ms. Belfiglio's inspiration for her birdhouse centered around the most decorative of birds - the peacock. Her artwork is currently on display at KSA Stark Education Conference Center: "Connections" show through September 27th. She is also scheduled to display her artwork in the 2nd April Galerie in Downtown Canton in the "Sensory Fest" show September 19 through October 15th.
